The idea behind the day
The two sites complement each other without resembling each other. Kairouan, the fourth holy city of Islam, is built around a ninth-century mosque and a medina of ochre brick. El Jem holds one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheatres in the Mediterranean, standing in open farmland. It is a full day: total driving exceeds two hundred kilometres.
