A city in two layers
The medina, almost entirely pedestrian, is organised around the Zitouna Mosque. The modern city, laid out along Avenue Habib Bourguiba, holds the hotels and offices. The newer Lac district carries most business activity.
What you can visit from Tunis
Carthage and Sidi Bou Said are under twenty minutes away. The Bardo Museum lies west of the city. Dougga, further inland, is about an hour and a half.
